Ask for a front-in site looking out over where the Snake & Clearwater Rivers come together (which is called Granite Lake here). This park is perfectly maintained and is on miles of bike paths and next door to a large driving range. Huge full-hookup sites, free wifi. The campground is also just behind a Costco. Clarkston, Washington is across the river from Lewiston, Idaho (get it, Lewis & Clark???). Lewiston is Idaho's lowest point in elevation at just over 700 feet and is Idaho’s only port. Next to the campground, on the bike path is a pretty little park - Granite Lake Park. (Note: I have given this campground a very high rating... even though it doesn't have a pool or hot tub. Location, location, location.) See more photos | See photos of the lake from the campground

Steamboat Rock State Park (we just loved this park!)
GPS: 47°51.320N/119°07.700W
Elevation: 1670 feet
Steamboat Rock is one of Washington State's most popular parks, so reservations are a must during the summer. After October 1st, they close-down half the campsites, but remain open year round. The park sits out on an isthmus in Banks Lake about ten miles south of Grand Coulee. The setting is spectacular, with a huge rock formation (Steamboat Rock) rising up from the center of the isle. The park is beautifully maintained and the lawn is irrigated and very green and lush. Deer wander through the park. 100 RV sites (full hook-ups with 30 & 50 amp service), 26 tent sites, bath house, dump station, fish cleaning station, fire wood for sale, aluminum can recycling, hiking, biking, fishing, boat ramp, bird watching, wild life viewing. (I also had pretty good cell service here.) Read our postcard from Steamboat Rock State Park

Though this campground is three miles from the busy Leavenworth tourist area - maybe that is the charm. Of the three possibilities in the area, Icicle River RV Resort wins. The friendly managers, Allen & Virginia, will do all they can to assure your stay is comfortable. Icicle River RV Resort has some sites over-looking the Icicle River and they will be remodeling in 2009 to accommodate more Big Rigs. They also have rental cabins, hot tub, laundry, wifi, group pavilions. Closed in the winter.

Leavenworth, WA 98826
Local: 509.548.7709. Reservations: 800.562.5709
The only reason we give the Leavenworth KOA even a two trailer rating is location, location, location. This old-fashioned campground is less than a mile from the quaint "Bavarian Village" that is Leavenworth. It is quiet, and on a pretty creek. Difficult maneuvering if you have a big rig. Sites are very narrow, close-together - and the campground is ridiculously expensive. Plenty of shady trees, which can be a problem if you want to find a satellite, but not a problem because they offer a huge variety of free cable television stations and free wifi. Pool & hot tub in season, rental cabins, small store and newspaper boxes. (NOTE: The owners are not friendly, there are many long-term live-ins, and the campground is not maintained well. RVGoddess.com does not recommend this campground.)

Where the Methow River joins the Columbia River. This park is easy to find along the river in small Pateros, Washington. No hook-ups, just street parking at the park. Self-registration, showers, toilets, BBQ grills, covered kitchen area, horseshoe pits and a children's play yard. The police come around and check on your registration. See more photos

The Yakama Nation RV Resort is a large campground not far from Highway 97, yet pretty quiet. It is a convenient location for touring the local wine country. Sites are large and well-spaced. Cable TV is available in sites 96-120. Basketball courts, sand volleyball, horse shoes, play area, putting green, pool, propane, dump station. Back-in and pull-through sites. The park is next to the Yakama Cultural Center and a few blocks from the Yakama Legends Casino (they do not provide shuttle service). There is nearly-one-mile paved trail around the campground and a swimming pool - so there is no excuse to not get some exercise. The RV park also has teepees for rent, if you want to sleep in a Native American tent (or put the kids in one!). Be aware that there is a canal at the edge of the campground, near the teepees, that is fast-running, steep-edged and not fenced! And, though the park has tons of posters and brochures promoting the local wine industry, no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the campground... and no thong bikinis are allowed at the pool. Dang.
