Fallon

Hub Totel RV Park (seriously, this is the name) 
30 amp gravel pull-throughs with cable, picnic tables and good cellular service. On a busy street.

In the area:
 
Fallon is home to a comprehensive Naval Air Station where Top Gun pilots train. The town also has all the major fast-food joints and a big Wal-Mart if you need to stock-up. Outside of town is Lahontan State Park. This is a great spot for a stop-over picnic, but they also feature camping, fishing, swimming and boating.

Great Basin National Park (near Baker)

There are beautiful alpine lakes and a glacier in Great Basin National Park - all the greenery and pine trees seem very out of place in the Nevada desert, but at this elevation - over 10,000 feet elevation, all things are possible. Great Basin is a strange National Park. It IS in the middle of no where, but there is no admission fee and they didn't even ask for our Parks Pass. One of the most popular RV parks in Las Vegas and very convenient. They have a shuttle to the Strip. (We usually take the shuttle in and hop a taxi back.) This park has everything, including free wi-fi and is kept-up very well. Campsites are pretty close to each other, but  have a small patio with a nice picnic table. Full hook-ups with 30 & 50 amp and cable. Pull-through's and back-in sites available. Sites nearer to the Interstate are a bit noisy, and there is also air traffic noise. Security, pool, kiddie pool, spa, restaurant, store, activities.

Outdoor Resorts - Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort
Wowzer - is this place nice! They have everything and plenty of it. Several pools and hot tubs. The sites are large, paved and have lawn. Many of the sites are privately owned and have been improved with outdoor kitchens and elaborate gardens. Some air traffic noise and it is impossible to make a left turn onto the Blue Diamond Highway. Restricted to motor coaches only with size and age (coach, not owner) restrictions.

Sam's Town - A Camping Journal customer - Claudia, from Idaho - reports the showers at Sam's Town in Las Vegas are fabulous with great water pressure.

In the area:
     
Outside of town is Hoover Dam. At this time, it is again possible for RVs to drive over the dam after an on-board (inside and out - 5 minutes) inspection. (Subject to change - always check!) RV parking is on the Arizona-side of the dam and you must walk about 1/2 mile back to the dam. If you take your tow car, park in the parking garage. (Bus tours from Las Vegas are also available.) If you want to go inside the dam you must go with a guide (fee). There is a gift shop, snack shop and restrooms. Read our postcard.

Red Rock Canyon
       
If you enjoy hiking, or simply want to take a scenic drive through the desert, head out the Blue Diamond Highway to find .

Restaurants: Our favorite is Nobu at the Hard Rock Hotel - hands down. Our favorite dish is the yellow tail sashimi with jalapeno. Being big Parrotheads, we always stop in to the Margaritaville Cafe for a Cheeseburger in Paradise (lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french-fried potatoes, a big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer... well, you get the idea). A spin through the Margaritaville Gift Shop is required - you would not believe the stuff Jimmy Buffett sells and his fans are lined-up at the cash registers! In the Venetian, you can pretend you are dining in St. Mark's Square, with gondolas floating down the canal, at Postrio, one of Wolfgang Puck's restaurants. Postrio seems to be Italian, but seriously, it was difficult to tell since Puck has spaghetti and wiener schnitzel on the menu. Voted the "best restaurant in Las Vegas" several times, it is easy to see how this down-to-earth restaurant is so popular. As long as we are discussing Puck, stop into his Bar & Grill in the MGM Grand Hotel for a bite to eat. He offers delicious burgers and pizzas, but if you want a little over-the-top snack order their signature dish: Truffled Potato Chips with Blue Cheese. Unbelievable! We recently had two very mediocre meals at Spago in Caesar's Forum, so hesitate to recommend Spago until further notice. In the Bellagio Hotel, try Olives - one of Todd English's best restaurants. They have a fabulous ribeye and serve delicious pizza, except they call it flatbread.

Laughlin

Riverside RV Park 
We only stayed here overnight. The park is on a terraced hill over-looking Laughlin. 50 amp site on gravel pull-throughs. Good cell service.

Pahrump

Terrible's Lakeside Casino & RV Park 
This park is rated 10-10-10, but it is near nothing (well, there is a brothel on the corner). However, a very nice campground with all hook-ups and good cell service. No cable, but antenna was good. Very quiet... very, very quiet.

Reno

Grand Sierra Resort (previously the Hilton/Reno KOA)

NOTE: Rumor has it this RV park will close sometime in 2008. Right off the freeway. Big pull-throughs. All the big-box stores in town - the perfect stop to load-up if you are heading out to the wilderness for a few days. This campground is behind the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno and is better situated as it is not exactly under the Reno Airport flight path... just next to the flight path. Great bike/running path along the river. Full hookups with 50 amps. You can walk to the casino/hotel/restaurants and they have a driving range - balls are hit into a pond!

NOTE: The Reno KOA has moved out to Boomtown - west of Reno on I-80.

Hi-Desert RV Park 
An over-night stop for us. 50 amp pull-through gravel sites, with full hook-ups, cell service, dog friendly, pool, hot tub and newspaper box, quiet and safe.
