Puerto Penasco / Rocky Point, Mexico

Malacon area in Puerto Penasco  Malacon in Puerto Penasco
It is 104 miles from Ajo, Arizona to Puerto Penasco. Buy auto/RV insurance in Ajo, as it is a rare US policy that will cover you in Mexico. There are many companies selling these policies in Ajo and other border towns. Do research - order on-line or phone ahead to save time at the counter. Do not leave the US without Mexican insurance!!! (And, gee, did I mention to not take guns into Mexico???)

Playa Bonita RV Park
We spent two weeks here. Never, ever, have I stayed where rigs are parked so close together. People staying in the campground are fun - the same people have been coming for years. Plenty of friendly Canadians, too. The park is associated with, and next to, a hotel. We never tried the hotel restaurant, but the beach-side patio bar is quite lively each and every Happy Hour. The power goes out quite often in this park and the water pressure is truly non-existent. Full hook-ups (30 amp) on gravel, directly on the beach. Hot tub. A guy brings American newspapers into the park daily and sells them for several dollars each. Fish and produce vendors drive through too. Craft vendors stay on the sea wall and are not too aggressive. Campers gather at the sea wall each evening with cocktails and enjoy gorgeous sunsets.

Very similar to the Playa Bonita above, just a two miles down the beach. Same cramped quarters; not as many vendors. Restaurant on premises.
