"Camping"
Indio, California: The weather, again, was
very nice. After record-breaking rain earlier this week (1.5 inches, by the
way!) we enjoyed sun and no wind. Everyone at the RV resort seems to be
drying-out and wanting to spend time out-of-doors after spending the past
few days cooped-up in their fiberglass boxes.
I went for a long walk around the resort, camera in hand, to snap photos of
what is going on around here. I thought you may be interested. Maybe you
will. Maybe you won't.
There are 400 campsites at the
Signature Resorts Motorcoach Country Club. Each site is privately owned.
Each site has water, sewer, electricity, cable TV, wifi and natural gas.
Owners have the right to stay on their site as long as they please, or rent
it out as they see fit. They pay monthly homeowner fees (like condo fees)
and pay their own electricity. Owners are subject to California State
property taxes.

Usually, after a site is purchased, the new owner will make
certain homeowner-association-approved improvements. Most owners add a
casita to their site:

A good example of a casita. Usually they have a full bath and washer/dryer
and storage, etc.

Many, after all the years, are completely covered with bougainvillea

Some owners simply use their casitas as a garage for their golf car (not
golf cart, by the way)

Because
it is so hot here in the summer, there are very few site-owners who live
here year-round in their motorhomes. However, there are many, many, many
owners who come here for six months or more each year. Here they can enjoy
great weather and facilities that rival (or surpass) most luxury resorts -
three swimming pools, three spas, a mile long water course for
electric/man-powered boats, tennis courts, golf course, gourmet restaurant
and bar, health club, concierge service, 24-hour security, daily garbage
pick-up at your site, gorgeous landscaping and a built-in group of
like-minded neighbors.
Plus, the development is owner-owned and operated, so they can make/break
their own rules. Owners are allowed to rent their sites, or let their
friends stay. The only restrictions at the Motorcoach Country Club is that
the site is occupied by a motorcoach (Class A motorhome) - no trailers,
fifth-wheels, etc. We have rented our site privately from an owner who isn't
going to be here this month. He gave us use of his campsite, his golf car
and patio furniture during our one month stay. It is easy to find a site to
rent privately through many motorhome internet forums or RV magazine
classifieds.
Some owners have left their sites unimproved. Others have
built what seem complete estates on their lot. While it is common to build a
casita, some owners have added covered ramadas/pergolas for dining,
including complete outdoor kitchens, bars, natural gas fire pits/fireplaces,
outdoor televisions and elaborate water features. Some have added their own
swimming pools or spas.

This concludes our tour!
As you can see, we are not suffering in our surroundings at the Motorcoach
Country Club in Indio!
Tonight we observed Shabbat and had a nice meal (lovingly prepared by yours
truly). Until my next update, I remain, your RV Resort correspondent.
