On the road again

Las Cruces, New Mexico: Today, my family headed home and DT and I headed east - with no destination in mind. A true adventure and a true vacation. We will be traveling quite a bit now, so check back often to see where we are staying, what we are doing... and what we are eating.

Our morning started at 8 o'clock when a guy showed up to wash our bus. He washed our bus for three hours - but the Magna Peregrinus looks as good as the day she came out of the factory... two months ago. DT and I left Tucson just before noon, pointed the MP east on I-10.

No - we did not stop to visit The Thing? again. Once was enough.

We stopped for diesel in Willcox, crossed the Continental Divide, and stopped again just before finding a campsite for the night. We pulled over to a rest area just west of Las Cruces to visit a most interesting piece of "art". A 20-foot-tall roadrunner sculpture was created of metal and trash from the city dump. In 2000, the giant roadrunner was placed on a bluff over-looking Las Cruces at a roadside rest stop. Who knew? (NOTE: the statue is at the rest area on I-10 just west of town, and is only accessible from the east-bound freeway.)

So, again we are in Las Cruces, New Mexico. We just love Las Cruces - and the interesting little nearby village of Old Mesilla. We always stay at the same RV park,  Hacienda RV Resort, we love it too - and we always dine in the same restaurants. Several years have passed since we have been here, so follow along as we re-live our past.

For dinner, we visited La Posta, the oldest restaurant in New Mexico and one of the oldest restaurants in America. La Posta was a stop on the Butterfield Stage Line and has entertained Pancho Villa and Billy the Kid. Today the restaurant consists of many rooms joined together in a hodge-podge configuration with wonderful decor and many squawking parrots. La Posta makes a real margarita - just like my recipe, the potion has three ingredients: tequila, Cointreau and lime. Perfection.

DT had a giant combo plate. On the left is a beef enchilada - La Posta serves cheese enchiladas
with meat over the top. He also had a chicken taco, a chile rellano, rice and beans.

Petite diner that I am... two chicken tacos - no rice, no beans.

We have a full day of touristing planned for tomorrow, so check back for our report (and possibly some photos). I will tell you now we are planning to visit a restaurant famous for their chile rellanos... so possibly I will not eat tacos tomorrow!

Until my next update, I remain, your vacationing correspondent.

RV Park: Hacienda RV Resort - We had site 175, a very long pull-through. 30 & 50 amp, water, sewer. Hacienda RV Resort is a great park - we love it here. Free wifi, free breakfast in their cozy (fireplace!) lodge in the morning. Hot tub. We paid $52.
