Weekend in LA
Indio, California: DT and I have returned
to Indio after a whirl-wind overnight trip to Los Angeles. We returned our
Grand Dawg to our daughter and went to a French restaurant for dinner and a
French restaurant for brunch. Oui.
The only event worth noting on our drive to Los Angeles was this strange
cloud formation. It looked like a funnel cloud that had not quite made it to
the ground. We have never seen anything like it, and I am sorry my photo
(snapped while cruising on the LA freeway at high speed) did not turn out
sharper.

Saturday night, our daughter's friend (high school
classmate!) came over and we all went out to a newly reopened French bistro
in downtown Los Angeles, Church & State. The restaurant is very trendy,
noisy, crowded and had a great menu with all the French favorite - steak
frites, cassoulet, foie gras and a 100% French wine list. Our food was very
good, but the service was simply terrible. Our server brought the wrong
dishes to our table and we had to wait nearly an hour for our check! DT,
notorious big tipper, barely gave the girl enough to cover her parking. We
are too old to dine at Church & State.

Sunday, DT and I spent a very enjoyable day with our Dear
Daughter. The weather was beautiful and the skies were actually clear (not
smoggy). After coffee outside in the garden, my two runners hit the pavement
for a long Father-Daughter run around her neighborhood.
After showers and another pot of coffee, we walked down to one of our
favorite restaurants in Los Feliz,
Figaro. If you
look at the surrounds in the background of this photo, you would be positive
this photo was snapped in Paris.

As our waitress said: "we don't mess around with cafe au lait here".

A perfect herb omelet makes a perfect brunch. Food at Figaro is divine.
Late in the afternoon, DT and I drove back to Indio,
arriving just after dark. Traffic was actually tolerable. We will remain in
this evening and rest-up after our whirl-wind trip to LA. It sure is quiet
in our RV without our little Grand Dawg. :(
Until my next update, I remain, your "dang, Arnie, fix your roads"
correspondent.
