Living Desert Zoo
Indio, California: My folks are visiting
for a few days, so we decided to get out and walk around the grounds of the
fun and fabulous
Living Desert zoo in Palm Desert, California.
The animals were very active and we were lucky to snap a few great photos:

About one acre of the zoo is covered with an incredible miniature train
town!

The train goes by "Mount Rushmore"!

The Living Desert has three adult giraffes - and a new baby.

The Living Desert has a great "petting zoo" area with
livestock commonly found in African villages -
Nigerian Dwarf goats,
Ankole-Watusi cattle,
Jacob's
Sheep and miniature Sicilian donkeys. We were able to pet several exotic
creatures.

Nigerian Dwarf Goat (making a face)

This goat liked Mom's walking stick and kept rubbing against it - really
made Mom laugh

Come on, lady, scratch my head!

This little guy was asleep in a bucket

The zoo is very walkable - though they do have a convenient
shuttle (golf cart train) traveling through the zoo at all times. We spent
about two and a half hours and saw most of the exhibits. It was cloudy all
day and we even felt a few sprinkles.
On our trip around the Living Desert today, we also saw beautiful cats:

Largest of the zebra breeds, the
Grevy's
Zebra is now restricted to just a few areas
in Northern Kenya and is quickly facing extinction

In the afternoon, Mom and Dad wanted to visit Costco - don't
we have an exciting life? Wow, were they having a few good deals. Like Dad
said: you can go bankrupt saving money at Costco!
Until my next update, I remain, your zoological correspondent.
