Saturday errands

Indio, California: I know all of you at home are suffering from more snow. Snow is fun the first day or two... but after a week, that lovely Oregon rain would be welcome. Must be putting a cramp on holiday shopping and I suppose many holiday parties have been cancelled altogether. So sorry.

We had a quiet morning, but headed out on a mission in the afternoon. I needed a lamp to use while needlepointing. Okay, I have a lamp, but it became a hassle to have to move it (rearrange furniture) every time I wanted to sit and stitch for a bit. What I needed was a simple clamp-on task lamp. We bought two this week and neither worked. Poor quality material. So, DT drove me all the way to Palm Desert to buy an Ott Lite Truecolor Task Lamp, stopping to allow me to return the two other (previously mentioned) lights along the way. He is truly a mensch. The Ott Lite is an $80 lamp, on sale for $51. Such a deal! The natural light is really a plus for needlework... and I have I mentioned I am sight impaired?

I am working this canvas for a pillow in our living room at home.

As long as we were in Palm Desert on a Saturday afternoon, we stopped by the College of the Desert Street Fair. Hundreds of vendors hawk their wares. The fair is a varied collection of art (and "art"), junk, made-for-TV junk, local crafters, hats, cheap clothing cheap, hats, golf equipment, fruits, veggies, dates in every situation, hats, belts, socks, jewelry, painters, metal crafters, hats, fresh flowers and, did I mention, hats?

The street fair also has a nice "food court" with many popular local food carts. One vendor is famous for breakfast potato & egg burritos, which they serve until the burritos run-out and then switch to beef tacos. The tortillas are pressed on-site, fried and then filled with beef asada. Delicious. Two tacos for $5.50.

My folks are coming for a few days and we will have dinner here tomorrow night. So, early this evening I was in the kitchen preparing the main course (photos tomorrow) and dessert (photos tomorrow)! Sunday is also the first night of Hanukkah, so I will be frying latkes.

For dinner tonight, we drove our golf cart over to the Club House for a very gourmet repast. DT ordered sand dabs in a lemon butter sauce and I had cheese ravioli in a red sauce with chicken, kalamata olives and artichoke hearts. Service was wonderful and the dining room is very elegant. I just love RVing!

Personal Note - To Whom It May Concern in the NIKE socks department: Can you please explain to me why I need left and right socks? I am 53 years old and have survived until this date with socks that simply match (if I'm lucky). This left/right sock thing takes up to 10 seconds of my morning before exercising. I need an explanation. What possibly could happen if I accidentally wear the socks on the "wrong" feet?

Until my next update, I remain, your well-lit correspondent.
