A report from the golf course
Borrego Springs, California: The weather
changed overnight. Beautiful, clear skies. Warm, sunny weather. Just the
slightest breeze! We went golfing!
The
Springs at Borrego has a beautiful golf course. It is a regulation
nine-hole golf course, par 36 - challenging, yet fun. The course is in great
shape and has very pretty vistas to the mountains along the palm tree-lined
links.

The first hole

You may think this is a photo of DT watching his huge drive fly down
the fairway... but if you look a little closer, you will see it really just
another opportunity for me to post yet another photo of our new RV.

The fifth hole - gorgeous mountain views

There is my ball with a big hazard in the way - a tumbleweed blowing by

DT hits to the 8th green
DT played 18 holes, while I stopped at nine. It was the
first time I had played in a while and didn't want to over-do it on the
first day. Hubby played well and I played... well, I played, and that is
what is important, right? I do get more exercise than most golfers, I can
say that for sure.
Our campsite is next to the camp hosts. At this RV resort, the camp hosts
greet you, meet you, maintain, and then rake your site when you leave. Our
neighbors are very friendly, and in spite of the fact that their daughter is
a Beaver (i.e. Oregon State University veterinary school), we quite enjoy
their company. Tonight the resort was hosting a bon fire! The camp hosts set
up a huge fire in the sand near the 9th green and served up a huge pot of
chili, hot dogs and s'mores. Very nice. All we were required to bring was a
chair. We were going out for dinner, so only joined in the social aspect of
the gathering, but we met many friendly fellow campers and many fellow
Oregonians.

Campfire Happy Hour
For dinner, we tried Assaggio (1816 Palm Canyon Drive,
760-767-3388) at the airport. This restaurant used to be a steak house and
still has antique airplane murals on the walls. The menu was surprisingly
expansive for such a teeny town. They have a full bar and offer several
Italian wines. Almost every entree is under ten dollars, which is basically
unheard of, no matter where your RV travels. Service was good and prompt...
but the restaurant wasn't very busy. We have heard from fellow campers that
Assaggio is one of the most popular restaurants in town and during "the
season" you can't get in without a reservation.

Linguine Chicken Anchovy Olio ($9.90). Sautéed Chicken breast with garlic,
anchovy and olive oil

Perfect and classic: Chicken Parmigiana
We have a big adventure planned for tomorrow, so be sure to
check back! Until my next update, I remain, your campfire girl
correspondent.
