Super Bowl Sunday in Alpine, Texas
Alpine, Texas: After our long drive
yesterday, we decided to just take it easy today and relax, hang around the
campground and watch the Super Bowl.
Well, as much as DT can relax, anyway.
First adventure of the day was a drive over to the very nice city park where
they have a jogging path - and even a (very brown) nine-hole golf course.
Little Alpine, Texas is home to
Sul Ross State
University. The pretty campus its above town on a grassy hillside.
Founded in 1917, the University is named after Texas pioneer Lawrence
Sullivan "Sul" Ross - one-time governor of Texas. The university is the
birthplace of the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association - and rodeo is king at
Sul Ross. And, remember that story a few years ago about a guy who went back
to college at age 57, only to learn he had a year of athletic eligibility
left and joined the football team? Well, it was Mike Flynt and he played for
the Sul Ross Lobos. Now you know.
If you continue to read this website, you will eventually become Jeopardy
champion.

Dan Blocker (Hoss) is a Sul Ross alum - of course!
Later, we stopped at the local Porter's Thriftway grocery
store. It was a fine store, with all sorts of interesting items - including
an incredible dried bean selection of exotic and heirloom varieties from the
surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, back at the Lost Alaskan RV Park:

Don't mess with Texas!

Not wanting to risk his life, DT kept the Honda under 5 miles per hour

Obviously, the laundry room. It was super clean and organized.

Until my next update, I remain, your "is football season
over now?" correspondent.
RV Park:
Lost Alaskan RV Park. This park is nothing fancy, but we like it here
very much. Lost Alaskan is the best choice of the several parks in town.
Owners are very friendly and helpful with advising excursions, restaurants,
etc. Full hook-up gravel sites with picnic tables. All sites are
pull-through. 30 & 50 amp, water pressure isn't very good (50psi). Many
nice, large shade trees, but we had no trouble finding our satellites. Cell
service. Aluminum can recycling. Good cable television, laundry, bathhouse,
club house, horse shoes, play ground, swimming pool in season. Just over a
mile to town. We paid $30.
