Lunch. Little blue pill. Late-night snack.

Indio, California: We went to lunch at 11:30. Something like an early-bird special, I suppose... especially since the restaurant we tried also features "light eater" luncheon specials. Mario's Italian Cafe is a very popular chain of six local eateries. Mario's is a pizza and "spaghetti with meatballs" place - nothing fancy. You choose your pasta and you choose your sauce. Prices are very reasonable, service is quick and the food is quite good. All food served at Mario's is made in-house, including the ravioli, lasagna, cannelloni and Manicotti. (For some strange reason they also have Chinese Chicken Salad and Fish & Chips on their menu.)

DT especially liked the door signage, since both
doors open into the same lobby

... much better with a side order of baseball-sized meatballs.

I wish more restaurants offered smaller portions. It is ridiculous how much food we are served in restaurants. Too many doggie bags. Too much food wasted.

Harold GouldThis evening we went to the Indian Wells Theater at Cal State San Bernardino to see a play. Viagara Falls is a new comedy about two old widowed men who are looking for one last hurrah. They get a call girl and a few Viagra tablets and the fun begins. The play takes place in one act - 100 minutes - on one set, with only three actors. Viagara Falls is really a tale of the love between two life-long friends.

The show was very funny and I don't think I have ever heard as many sexual innuendos, or euphemisms for needing Viagra. EVER. But the play was never dirty - it was just bawdy vaudeville. The two male stars, Lou Cutell and Harold Gould (right) played 77 year olds - and, in fact, they are both older. Harold Gould is 85. He didn't miss a step or flub even one line. Cutell has been in countless plays, films and TV shows and is famous for being "The Assman" on a Seinfeld episode. (Cutell co-wrote this play with Joao Machado.) The Lady of the Evening was played by the quite busty Teresa Ganzel, (age 51!). Ganzel was a delight. If you are in the Palm Springs area - check it out... "or you can wait until Viagra comes out in liquid form and pour yourself a stiff one"... sorry, couldn't help but use one of the great lines from the play.

After the play, late-night for this town, we went searching for food and found ourselves at the Elephant Bar in Palm Desert. It had been a very long time since our "light eater" lunch specials and we were hungry! We had bar snacks at this fun restaurant, decorated in an African theme, serving Pacific Rim foods. Isn't that crazy? The place has elephants everywhere - photos, statues, murals, busts, tiles... on and on. Very cute.

Elephant Bar
How about ruining perfectly healthy salmon and tofu sushi by deep frying the roll before slicing?
DT loved it!
