Day 4: Quiet Day
Berlin, Germany: Not a lot going on at the
track and not a lot going on in our lives. Lisa woke at 5 o'clock and was
out the door at 5:05. She is back in Paris, but will fly to
America tomorrow. Her holiday is over.
We had a very long walk around Berlin this morning, met with friends to
discuss important matters of the day (i.e. track and field). I snapped a few photos of Berlin
for your enjoyment:

Apparently, Abraham Lincoln changes everything

Today was by far the coolest weather we have enjoyed since
our arrival - it was just around 70 degrees this afternoon. Very enjoyable
weather for walking, yet still warm enough to enjoy a lovely lunch at an
outdoor cafe. (We have not eaten a meal indoors since arriving in Berlin.)

This wiener schnitzel came with a warm potato and cucumber salad - yummy
After lunch we were back on the subway and back at the
track for night four of the 2009 World Track & Field Championships. Tonight was the least exciting of all evening sessions.
Our friend, Bershawn
Jackson, was third in the 400m hurdles and Duck Rachel Yurkovich finished
well-back last in the women's javelin. There was a very good time in the men's
steeplechase, if you follow such races, and Sanya Richards won the gold for
the US in the 400m.

Usain Bolt won his 200m heat. I am sure you are shocked.

Black & White Bolt
Our track buddies were having quite a relaxing night.
Maybe this is why we are calling it an early night:

Just one of several deliveries
Interesting note about beer in the stadium - you must pay a
1.20 Euro deposit on your cup - no matter if it is filled with beer, water
or soda. There is virtually no litter in the stands in Berlin. Love it!
On our way back to the hotel, we again had a pizza - except tonight I told
the girl we would like to split a pizza. She brought us each half a pizza.

Pizza in Berlin: cheese and tomato with fresh arugula.
They love arugula on pizza in Berlin - it is my new favorite thing.
We must be to the track in the morning to watch University
of Oregon decathlete Ashton Eaton compete, so I will close and wish you all
a good night/day/whatever your time zone.
Until my next update, I remain, your Warsteiner correspondent.
