Touring South
Neskowin, Oregon: Yes, still here in Neskowin. We woke this morning to brilliant sun, no wind, and
not a cloud in the sky. Very warm and simply a beautiful day! DT and I were up
and exercising (ovaling the grass in the campground over and over and over
instead of fighting the sand on the beach). After, we sat in the sun with my
parents chatting and drinking coffee. Really a great morning!
For our luncheon adventure, we drove south past Lincoln City to the Siletz River
for lunch at the Kernville Steak & Seafood House. It was fun to sit overlooking the river and
watch the fishermen and crabbers - and the occasional sea lion - move up and
down the river.

I can't say the Kernville restaurant was a great or not-so-great
restaurant. The view is outstanding and our sandwiches were pretty good. Service
was extremely poor and I think their dinner menu really needs to be sampled
before I would give it a thumbs-up or down. They had a good wine list!
After lunch, we continued south to Depoe Bay to buy salt water taffy at
Ainslee's Salt Water Taffy - a must-do on the Oregon Coast. It was foggy in
Depoe Bay!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch campground ... I can't help it - the rabbits are just so cute!

...bunnies. At one point, I counted eleven. Too difficult to keep track - they
are too quick.
Every time the Mom was near the babies, they tried to nurse.

Doesn't it seem like hours ago that we had those sandwiches? On
our way back through Lincoln City we stopped at Barnacle Bill's Seafood to
purchase fish for our dinner. Today, BB's had freshly-caught local Yellow-Eye -
a sort of now-common rock fish that looks just like a gold fish you would see at
a school carnival. (Except, of course, it is not.) We bought three fillets and
DT grilled them tonight on the new grill. Perfect!

With the fish, I served that fabulous barley salad from the May 2008 Food & Wine magazine and garlic
toast. I did make a little sauce for the fish with white wine, butter, olive
oil, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice and a little basil I brought from our
garden at home. Italian wine was also on the menu.
While we were eating dinner, two little girls from a nearby campsite were
feeding the "wild" rabbits.

Tomorrow, DT must be back in Eugene for Eugene08 business, and
then we head out to eastern Oregon. The temperature is supposed to be in the
triple-digits in the Willamette Valley tomorrow and our living-area air
conditioner has decided to go on vacation... this won't be fun.
