Happy Halloween from Napa
Napa, California:
Our Big Adventure was lunch at
Taylor's Automatic
Refresher
in town, and I apologize in advance... I think it is actually possible to gain
weight while reading my travel blog today.

Compostable lunch for two
We
just love Taylor's and visit every time we are in St. Helena. Now they have
opened a branch in Napa and another at the Ferry Market in San Francisco, so we
have even more opportunity to enjoy their fabulous burgers.
I had a Blue Cheese burger and a pumpkin shake. The pumpkin shake was very good
- like drinking pumpkin pie - and is only available seasonally. DT had a patty
melt and a chocolate shake. For some reason, he ordered garlic fries. I had four
fries and hours later, still feel garlic seeping out my pores. Invasive, those
garlic fries... but delicious. Our sandwiches were perfect too.
Taylor's has gone green! They now serve their drinks in
cups made from corn,
cutlery is made
from potatoes and the tray liner gives instructions on how to place your
once-trash into their compost bins! I love this... though I still don't
understand why restaurants can't use glass glasses and actual stainless cutlery.
Lunch isn't cheap at Taylor's. Our lunch today - at what most would call a fast
food joint - was nearly $32... our lunch yesterday at the public market next
door was cheaper and we had wine!

We also stopped at the next-door
Model Bakery to
pick up a loaf of bread... and I couldn't help but snap a photo of their
incredible pizza, sold by the slice. The website does not mention their new
location yet - but it is on the corner of 1st and McKinstry, right behind
Taylor's Automatic Refresher. This bakery is one of the best in California.

The rest of the day was spent in our motorhome, waiting to watch
the Pac-10 cross country championships on the internet. Our University of Oregon
Duck men won and the Oregon women were second. (Washington women came in 1, 2,
3, 4 and 5. Rare score, and incredibly impressive. GO DUCKS!
Let's hope we fare as well against the Cal Bears tomorrow in Berkeley at the
football game!!!
After the championship, we went for a walk between rain showers. There are miles
of trails here at this county park and hubby saw deer and turkey on his run the
other day. So, off we went.

Hills to hike at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa

Oh, and a bear with her cub spotted last week and don't forget the mountain
lions!!!
(Luckily, we made it back alive.)

Trail through oak trees

We did find turkeys on the trail - and also saw deer and quail and heard
woodpeckers. Oh, my.

Turkeys... Thanksgiving is less than a month away
We will remain in tonight, celebrating a rare Halloween Shabbat.
Until my next update, I remain, your Duck harrier fan correspondent.
