Standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona...

Tempe, Arizona: We didn't have to rush so much this morning, so everyone slept in a bit before packing it up and heading to a very important destination. Okay, so maybe "Standing on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona" isn't exactly a National Landmark, but it is important to old hippies like us.

I'm sure everyone in Winslow, Arizona is sick of seeing tourists snapping photos on the corner made famous by a song written by Jackson Browne and The Eagles. (Or, maybe not, considering all the tacky tourist shops in the area.)

The other landmark in Winslow (besides the prison) is La Posada Hotel, built in 1930 by Fred Harvey as a Santa Fe Railroad hotel. Harvey chose Mary Colter as the architect. Colter also designed most of the buildings along the rim of the Grand Canyon, including the Watchtower at Desert View.

After this adventure, we continued towards Tempe on scenic highway 89, climbing up over 7000 feet through several passes before plunging down into the Phoenix area through mile after mile of gorgeous saguaro forest. We easily found our way to our usual RV park, very close to campus, and settled-in. Our motorhomes are now decorated for game day!

Last night, at Meteor Crater RV Park, we had to unhook our water connection because it was going to freeze overnight. When we arrived in Tempe this afternoon, it was 88°. Just a slight climate change. The worst part about the weather is the 8% humidity - we are cracking and peeling.

Tomorrow is the Big Game! Until my next update, I remain, your GO DUCKS correspondent.

RV Park:
Apache Palms. We stay here often because they are close to the ASU campus. Sites are very tight, but the owners are friendly and the property is meticulously maintained. Pull-through's and back-ins. Pool, cable television. New light rail across the street. Free (fast) wifi.
