Playa Bonita | Puerto Penasco

Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico:  A pattern is forming here. Mornings are warm and sunny and quite enjoyable. In the afternoon, the wind kicks up and it isn't pleasant sitting on the beach. So, after noon, we headed out in search of a nice lunch somewhere on a wind-blocked patio. Today we went down to the Playa Bonita Resort - site of many Happy Hours during our last visit to Puerto Penasco.

Ready for diners: Playa Bonita Resort

We had traditional (American-style) Mexican dishes - nachos, quesadillas and carne asada tacos. Playa Bontia Resort is quite nice, with a hotel, pool, restaurant and RV park - everything needed by an American (or Canadian) to survive a weekend in Mexico. The service is good, the food is cheap and the patio tables are basically on the beach. (The hotel also requires the vendors remain just off-property so you are not harassed - too much - during your meal.)

Mom and I ordered margaritas. They were better than the undrinkable margaritas ordered last night, but still they were not quite right. Many of the restaurants have discontinued their Happy Hour now too. What is going on? No Happy Hour and bad margaritas? Is this Mexico? More research is required.

Obviously, I am going to have to make a batch of my famous 3-2-1 Margarita recipe. Stay tuned.

The sunset tonight was especially beautiful. There were a few clouds towards the west to show the mountains over Baja which made for a glorious show. As if on cue, the Osprey nesting on Rocky Point soared down the shore for one last after-dinner fish just as the sun set behind the peninsula.

We observed Shabbat with Mom and Dad in our home on wheels. I roasted a SEVEN POUND free-range/organic chicken (frozen, brought from Palm Springs), baked a loaf of Challah and served roasted asparagus and a tomato salad. It was a delicious menu and we had a lovely and civilized evening with my parents in the quiet of our motorhome (with Italian wines) as half of Arizona - ATV's in-tow - checked-in to the RV park.

Challah
Baked at the sea, my Challah was especially lovely tonight.
Dang, if that isn't a lovely loaf of bread.
