Italy 2006
September 19 - October 12, 2006
TRIP HIGHLIGHTS: DT and I flew to Florence and spent four days before
joining Mary, Steve, Kathy & Woody in Venice. We all spent three days in
Venice together and then drove to Tuscany where Mary had arranged for a
small villa in Siena for a week. Next it was on to Rome for three days.
After Rome, they all flew off to Greece and Dave and I took a train to
Sorrento to meet up with Shirley and Martin for four days. Whew! I have
gathered photos from all (8) travelers and have put the best of the best on
these pages. Hope you enjoy!
FLORENCE
Day 1-2: Travel from Portland to Florence
Day 3: Florence Central Market, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signora & The Duomo
Day 4: Michelangelo's David, Santa Croce and The Uffuzi Gallery
Day 5: The Boboli Gardens and Piazza Pitti
VENICE
Day 6: A happy reunion at the Hungaria Palace on Lido
Day 7: Walking around a rainy Venice
Day 8: Burano, Murano and a gondola ride for the (2nd) honeymooners
TUSCANY
Day 9: We drive from Venice to Siena
Day 10: Spending the day in Siena and San Gimignano
Day 11: A little laundry, lunch at Brolio Castle; Badia a Coltibuono & Radda
Day 12: A day trip to Florence
Day 13: The grapes are harvested and we see some blood.
Day 14: Montalcino and Montepulciano
ROME
Day 15: Siena to Rome by Train; Trevi Fountain by Night
Day 16: Trajan's Forum, Emmanuel Monument, Pantheon, and Vatican City
Day 17: Roman Coliseum, Circus Maximus, Great Synagogue of Rome, Spanish Steps
SORRENTO
Day 18: Take the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento
Day 19: Driving the Amalfi Coast, lunch in Positano, Ravello
Day 20: Mama Mia - we visit the Isle of Capri
21: Pompeii
22: Shirley & Martin fly home; our last day in Sorrento
23: Sorrento to Frankfurt
24: Frankfurt to Portland
