Venice

Venice:  I will spare you a lot of verbage today and instead post many photos of beautiful Venice. Unfortunately, after having perfect weather the past five days, it became cloudy and rainy all morning and actually was a bit cold! Several umbrellas and hats were purchased from stalls today, instead of souvenirs! We took the water bus from Lido at 9 am and spent the day wandering the streets of Venice, not returning until nearly 6 pm. Here are photos of our day:

Added later: After returning to Lido, and having a rest, we walked down to a restaurant recommended by the staff of our hotel. We walked all around and could not find the place. Woody found a family-style restaurant (duh, it was Italian) and we had really good meals. For appetizers we had grilled vegetables, cured beef with pecorino on a bed of greens and also deep-fried olives stuffed with meat. Dinners were steaks, pasta, scampi and even a gigantic calzone. Woody had deep fried calamari, shrimp, sardines, scallops and maybe other seafood.

I think we are all pretty tired after our long day in Venice. Steve & Mary are still suffering from jet lag and my pedometer reads 17,770 steps (7.55 miles). It has not rained all afternoon, but it is still cloudy and the temperature is a bit cool. No gelato today.
