Joshua Tree National Park

Palm Springs, California: We spent the past week in Palm Springs with our daughter, Lisa. She flew in from Boston to visit with us and attend the annual Coachella Music Festival. Today, we all went up to Joshua Tree National Park for the day. It was a wonderful day, we had a few adventures and enjoyed good weather until our last stop at Hidden Valley - where the wind nearly blew us out of the Canyon! This time we entered the park from the south entrance off I-10 and drove north through the park, making a loop - returning to Palm Springs via Highway 62.

Cholla cactus
Attacking Jumping Cholla cactus

We stopped at the Cholla Cactus Garden. In this area there are acres and acres of Cholla - now in bloom and simply beautiful. At the Cactus Garden, DT wasn't paying attention and he touched a cactus with his foot and the sharp quills went into his shoe. One quill went through his shoe, into his sock, through his skin and (oh, look away) under his little toe nail. He nearly screamed from the pain, but remained fairly manly. How a microscopically-thin shard can cause so much pain is amazing! Finally, after a ten minute delay, he pried the painful intruder from under his nail and we continued on. Poor Baby!
