California State Capitol Building

Sacramento, California: I am ashamed to say that I have never visited the Capitol Building of the Great State of California. Even worse, my husband (born and bred California Boy) has never visited the Capitol Building in Sacramento. Time to rectify this situation. It is a very pretty Capitol Building as Capitol Buildings go, with one of the largest rotunda's noted so-far.

We visited the rotunda, House & Senate chambers and walked the halls to see the portraits of past Governors. We assumed Governor Schwarzenegger was "in the house" due to the corps of State Troopers guarding the door to the "Office of the Governor". The Govenator did not come out to greet us and actually totally ignored our visit.

The grounds around the Capitol Building are very nice - huge, old trees provided lovely shade for our afternoon stroll and fragrant gardenia and magnolias scented our path. Never, even once, did we get even a whiff of cigar smoke.

After our tour we went to Old Town Sacramento for a snack. We walked around through the shops, but it is very disappointing to us that all these lovely, historic buildings are filled with tacky tee-shirt shops and bad restaurants. Something needs to be done about this right away.
