Searching through Chinatown

Pacifica, California: Not too many photos today - we went shopping! However, I did want you to see our close quarters.

San Francisco RV Resort
Our home, this week

The people in the fifth wheel next to us had to put their entry step in, so we could get out of our RV! Now you understand why I call this place a RV Park(ing Lot).

DT ran this morning, I shipped books. He has tweaked his knee, so must ice and then hit the hot tub after his work-out. His sore knee did not stop him from missing even one day of exercise, or completing Our Quest: we needed to replace a few chipped plates from the set of dishes we purchased in Taipei in 1986! If you can imagine, we occasionally run across stacks of the pattern in large cities with large Chinatowns - and we were at the Mother of all Chinatowns today. Chinatown hasn't changed much over the years, they are still selling the same "stuff", but we did notice that several of the shops are now owned by Indians. It took us a good hour or two of searching, poking around and inquiring, but we were finally shown down a side street, down an alley, to the junkiest of dusty restaurant-suppliers and there sat our prize - six luncheon plates in perfect condition. $5 each.

The bad part about finding six perfect luncheon plates, even at $5 each, is that one of us had to schlep them all over town the rest of the day! DT also needed a pair of running shoes and isn't it convenient that there is a great NIKE TOWN between Chinatown and Kuleto's on Union Square?

It was a perfect day for walking in San Francisco. The weather was warm and sunny and there weren't too many other tourists. We noticed the cable cars weren't even full! The street "characters" are still abundant and still as uncharming as ever. There is plenty of new construction and remodeling/renovating going-on at this time and several sidewalks along our course were temporarily rerouted.

Again, we had a late lunch/early dinner at 3 pm. (I really saved-up by not having breakfast, and was starved after walking 5 miles around the city! I guess since DT is retired, we are officially part of the Early Bird Special set now?) Kuleto's Italian Restaurant was simply wonderful, as usual. The service is so exemplary and the wait staff so charming!

I started with a flute of Prosecco, while DT relaxed with a glass of Chianti. DT started with a Baby Spinach Salad with Olives, Feta Cheese, Mushrooms and Pine Nuts, while I enjoyed my favorite Kuleto salad: Arugula and Radicchio with Baby Beets, Goat Cheese, Candied Pecans and Blackberry Vinaigrette. Simply delicious, and served with a selection of freshly-baked Italian breads. For my entree I had the luncheon New York Steak Sandwich on Focaccia with Arugula, Aïoli and Garlic-Parmesan French Fries and my dining companion tried the Penne with Lamb Sausage, Marinara, White Beans, Broccoli Raab and Pecorino. Of course, we also tried the cannelloni - date & pistachio today - and coffee. Truly another wonderful meal at Kuleto's.

Late lunch at Kuleto's in San Francisco

After lunch, it was time to hit the San Francisco Center, with its famous curved escalator (which I suppose is old-hat these days) to do a little shopping before heading back to Our Intrigue.
