A day in San Francisco
Pacifica, California:
A Big Day in the Big City! We woke to brilliant, warm sun and enjoyed our
coffee outside. DT went for a run and I went over to the do-it-all-mall and
had a manicure and pedicure. Feeling like a new woman, I was ready to spend
the day in San Francisco.
Today we drove through Golden Gate Park to the
Fisherman's Wharf area and spent the entire afternoon looking
around there, enjoying the weather, the people-watching, the shops and, of
course - the restaurants. We always like to see the sea lions that have
taken over the docks.

Sitting on the dock of the bay

Massive
Yes, they are a stinky, noisy bunch - yet still fascinating.
If you need a cheap, tacky tee-shirt - Fisherman's Wharf or Pier 39 is the
place! All sorts of souvenirs are available as are tours of the city, boat
cruises of the bay and boat trips out to Alcatraz Prison. Today, we only
purchased postcards and they were the cheapest of the trip - 5/$1 - nearly
free! We saw visitors from every continent and heard at least 10 different
languages. Snacks abound! In addition to all the great restaurants, you can
pick up a crab cocktail to eat while you walk down the street - or a crab
salad sandwich, lobster sandwich - or a combination. Here are a few photos
of the food-stuffs available to the tourists along the wharf.

Cherries, strawberries, lobster & crab, oh my...

Alcatraz
For lunch-slash-dinner, we went to one of the old favorites
of DT's parents -
Scoma's
at 3 o'clock. They are catching salmon off the coast this time of year, so I
indulged in Scoma's prix-fixe luncheon - and such a deal was this choice.
First, I was served a Caprese Salad (my favorite), which was perfectly
dressed. For my entree I enjoyed grilled local-caught salmon served over a
bed of greens, and was served a chocolate torte and coffee. DT had Lobster
Bisque and Calamari Fritas - two things he can't get at home! We had a table
looking over the water and the service at Scoma's is perfect. Just a great,
great lunch today.

Doesn't this look good enough to eat?
The only bad thing about our meal today was that the table
next to us was filled with a band (or school or something) from Illinois and
they were all wearing matching shirts of such brilliance that we needed
sunglasses all during lunch. They were not yellow. They were not green. They
were day-glo. Nothing in nature is this color. I guess they wouldn't lose
each other in a crowd. I secretly snapped this photo for you.

Florescent Man
Later in the afternoon we met one of DT's old friends, Rob,
at McCormick's for a drink. (McCormick's is now, for some reason,
McCormick's & Kuleto's. More on this later, as
Kuleto's on Union Square is one of my favorite restaurants in San
Francisco and we will most likely be dining there some time soon.)
We actually wandered around the Wharf area for a bit more and picked up a
few loaves of sourdough bread (of course!) from
Boudin. We had this bread in Disneyworld in December, but it tastes
better here! Actually, they served it at Scoma's at lunch - and I had
forgotten just how delicious Boudin bread can be when so fresh. The baker in
the photo below was making whole wheat sourdough baguettes. You would not
believe the gorgeous smile he flashed me after I snapped his photo!

Yeasty Boy
We actually did not arrive back to the camper tonight until
after 9 pm! A very long day. Too full from lunch and too tired from walking
to have dinner. We watched the Mariners win and will call it a night.
