Palm Springs Village Fest
Palm Springs,
California: Again this morning we woke to gorgeous sunshine.
Sunshine and palm trees. What a wonderful world. We are getting into a
little routine of going to the hot tub after our morning walk or run. (I
walk and DT runs.) We are camped about 5 sites away from one of the many
pools here at this "resort". The pool is nearly 90 degrees and the hot tubs
(yes, there are two hot tubs at this pool) are 101 and 103 degrees - take
your pick between stewed or boiled. After a shower and a little breakfast we
are ready to begin our day. Never mind that it is by now around eleven
o'clock in the morning!
Today we headed out to do errands at a shopping center on Dinah Shore Drive.
When we entered Costco, it was a beautiful day. When we left the store
thirty minutes later it was like a typhoon was blowing through town. We made
it back to the car and headed back to the campsite. The wind was howling and
things were blowing around and everyone was putting their awnings in and
putting things away out of the wind. At five o'clock we watched the news
from Los Angeles when suddenly it became silent outside. It was like someone
had turned-off the "wind" button. The air was still in the matter of a
minute. Strangest dang thing I have ever seen.
It was a good thing, because we had plans for the evening and were about
ready to cancel and hunker-down for a blustery evening "at home" when the
wind died. We went out to the
Palm Springs Village Fest. Every Thursday evening Palm Springs closes
down a large section of the main street, Palm Canyon Drive/Highway 111 for a
craft fair. Village Fest a very nice craft fair and though we only came home
with a few bars of home-made soap, there was a huge array of vendors and
shop keepers selling their wares. Fruits, vegetables, breads, flowers,
ceramics, jewelry, food booths, dog coats, paintings, weavings, painted
light bulbs, time-share sales and even a booth with a Know-It-All-Rabbi!

Ask the Rabbi
The very personable Rabbi was chatting with everyone (and
chatting on his cell phone too). Chabad of Palm Springs is quite famous as
they have an especially beautiful mikveh and Pulitzer-Prize winning author
Herman Wouk, a learned Torah scholar, often teaches classes at the
synagogue. The big question the Orthodox Rabbi was asked in my presence was
"Where can a guy get a good cigar in Palm Springs?" The Rabbi was answering
the man as we left.
After our evening stroll through Village Fest, we had dinner at the
Blue Coyote Grill. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Palm
Springs, but we hadn't been back in several years. The Blue Coyote Grill
serves the best black beans EVER. I ate so many black beans - but they are
truly addictive.
