Puerto Penasco, Mexico
Puerto Penasco, Sonora,
Mexico: We had yet another relaxing day in the sun. Not a lot was
accomplished, but the day slipped away just the same. I think my Dad
actually watched both professional football games and I think DT helped. We
spent several hours at the beach. All day we saw numerous dolphins - at one
time we estimated 50 dolphins were in front of us - jumping in the water,
feeding - surrounded by flocks of pelicans. It was simply fascinating.
There must be no fish left in the entire Sea of Cortez after the feeding
frenzy we witnessed.
In the afternoon, DT and I headed out to search for cilantro and bottled
water. A new huge Super Ley's grocer had recently opened in town and a
fellow-camper gave us directions to the new store. I could not believe the
size and array of goods for sale! Of course, we had no idea what many of the
things were - we could read that it was cheese, but the exact type of cheese
was a complete mystery, even though it all looked exactly the same. The meat
department was quite interesting - especially what DT called the "parts
department". Lots of parts available at Super Ley's butcher. We bought 4
5-litre bottles of water, 10 limes, cilantro, green peppers, two jars of
salsa, baking powder, and salt and the bill came to $9. Even more exciting,
we took a different route home from the Super Ley's and discovered a "back
way" that goes along the dunes and had us home in 5 minutes! More field
trips to this interesting Super Mercado will have to follow!

Fisherman just off-shore
Gathering along the sea wall at sunset seems to be the
"thing" at every beach-side campground and this one is no different.
Margaritas are the drink of choice and tonight I made REAL margaritas with
tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice - over ice.
Tonight, I finally cooked the 6.6 lb bird that has been traveling in our
freezer since December 9th. It took 60 minutes in my fancy new
Advantium Oven. This new oven from GE is a regular electric oven, a
convection oven and a microwave oven - all in one unit the size of a regular
over-the-cook top microwave. It also has the ability to combine the
microwave with the convection oven (called Speed Cooking), allowing a 6.6
lb. chicken to be perfectly roasted and browned in an hour! The meat was
very moist and the skin was crispy. I wasn't sure I was going to like the
oven, and had Country Coach install a gas oven also, but I think I will
really like it! Oh, I also made gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans and
fresh buttermilk rolls, and Mom contributed a very delicious and pretty
garbanzo bean and pomegranate salad.

Sunday night dinner
DT is stimulating the local economy. Well, he is trying to
NOT stimulate the local economy, but he is helpless when the little kids
come by selling things on the beach! If anyone needs a turtle with a
bouncing head, let me know. We have three.
