Traveler's World RV Park | San Antonio
San Antonio, Texas: Did you know
Texas is HUGE? I mean, really big?
It was a beautiful, sunny day. DT went for a long run along a nearby canal
trail, and Snickers and I went for a long walk and then we had a wonderful
breakfast with Jean and How! Even though she had made up the guest room, and
even though the guest room was once Red's room and that would have been fun
- Jean wasn't too horrified that we wanted to sleep in our "own bed" in
their driveway. Much easier with the pooch, etc. Jean was raised with dogs
and Snickers knew an easy target when he saw one. By breakfast, Jean had
caved and was feeding him scraps of her toast from the table. They were best
of friends. We talked with Jean and How until 11 a.m., but the road was
calling. They are so interesting - and generous - and they have a very level
driveway! They were happy to finally see Goldie, and though we have met them
several times (since 1975!) before, this was the first time we had been to
their home and it was the first time they had met Snickers. Definitely one
of our best campsites - and meals - of the trip! Thank you, kind friends!

Red's people: How and Jean
We had a most unexciting drive west on I-10 to San Antonio.
At least we are now out of the murky swamp of the Gulf Coast. Fewer
mosquitoes. No more thunderstorms? We pulled into a nice campground just a
few miles south of downtown San Antonio. Mary called with the happy news
that the Ducks were ahead of the Evil Dawgs, 14-0, in the first quarter. It
was raining, even though it never rains in Autzen Stadium. That should have
been our first clue.
We are camped on the San Antonio River at the
Traveler's World RV Park on a bike path running along the river. I took
Snickers for a long walk on the trail while DT "set-up camp". Then we left
Snickers to sleep-off his lunch, and we went downtown to the Marriott
Hotel's Champions Sports Bar to catch the second half of the Duck game.
Other than the fact we had a meal, it was a complete waste of time. DT went
into a post-game funk. The other two Duck fans in the bar were bummed too.
No matter how many times I tell DT, "Honey, they are just kids. Most of the
players are even younger than Lisa", he won't listen. He HONESTLY feels the
Ducks lose because they "don't think they can win". (I think he is
over-thinking it - with the brain of a runner. I mean, it's not something
really important, like GW Basketball.)
They had better beat the Beavers.
