Disney World
Orlando, Florida: The weather today was just PERFECT. 80 degrees, sunny and no wind. No
rain. No thunder. No lightning. We were up early. I went to the supermarket
and DT went for a run. This was my first visit to a Publix Supermarket and
it was really, really, really nice! Everything I was looking for in one
store. They even had a very nice bakery and were bringing loaves of freshly
baked sourdough boules out of the ovens to tempt the shoppers. We spent the
rest of the morning at the motorhome, enjoying the sun. For our afternoon's
entertainment we went over to the Disney Boardwalk and walked along the
boards. This area is full of shops and restaurants and is home to the ESPN
Zone, where we spent our afternoon watching college football. It was really
a fun afternoon, too - we enjoyed great food, met fun people and the Ducks
Won! (Okay, mind you, the Ducks were not on TV. It is sad when you go to a
sports bar to watch the ticker across the bottom of the screen, isn't it? We
did watch the Cougs pound the SunDevils). Mary called several times from
Autzen and I get the scores text-messaged to my cell phone, and then of
course, there is always my wireless internet-surfing Palm Pilot. A girl
needs to feel connected while traveling around the country. The Ducks beat
Stanford!
Delaney wants Lilo and Stitch. Every shop we went into had nothing Lilo and
Stitch. Delaney assured me it was a Disney movie. (Is it normal for a seven
year old to know the producer of a movie?) Finally a clerk told us that they
sold Lilo and Stitch "stuff" at Downtown Disney - where we were last night -
at one shop! So, back we went. No Lilo, but lots of Stitch. We may never
learn what Lilo is or what it looks like! Stitch looks like a blue Gremlin.
Disney has just opened a new toy store in Downtown Disney, "Once Upon a
Toy". I would advise to not go there with a kid. It was bad enough I went
there with DT. He went nuts playing with everything. They sell something
funny: you put a Tootsie Pop in the holder, push the button, and the candy
spins 'round and 'round - you just need to stick-out your tongue! The
Tootsie Pop toy handles are Buzz Lightyear, Mickey, Minnie and other Disney
characters. Arms flail, gizmos whirl. Toys for the Lazy Lolly Licker. For
$12 you can get a Mr. Potato Head and can go around a circular display with
bins of eyes, ears, noses, glasses, moustaches, lips, hats... well, you name
it and it is there to complete your own Mr. Potato Head.
Disney World is so International. There is someone from everywhere here,
with the majority being Americans and second-place going to the English,
followed by Germans, Italians and Japanese. The crowds were larger tonight,
but Pleasure Island was still free until 9 p.m. We went back to Wolfgang
Puck's Cafe and walked right in for the last two seats at the sushi bar,
where we repeated our order from yesterday, and called it night.
