Bandon Dunes
Newport, Oregon - Whoa! We are getting
within walking-distance from home... guess we will have to limp-on-in
tomorrow. I had a very quiet day - the guys golfed without me. It was
another beautiful day - one of the best days you will ever have in Bandon.
We checked-out of the campground this morning and parked Goldie in the RV
parking area at Bandon Dunes golf course. DT and Matt played Pacific Dunes
and I went into the Big City of Bandon-by-the-Sea. The "Old Town" area is
quite nice, and it was a lovely day to walk along the pier and watch the
fishing boats. I bought a little smoked albacore and then went to the Bandon
Cheese Factory. They are trying a few new things, experimenting with
Trappist Monk-style cheeses. I bought a small chunk of a white, buttery
cheese - loaded with black pepper. Can't wait to serve this tasty morsel. I
was also able to read a bit of the new Jean Auel novel: The Shelters of
Stone. Ayla - the woman who invented matches, tamed horses and wolves, is a
sexual goddess and can kill a bison with one quick throw of her trusty
weapon - is now at the end of a one-year journey to live-out the rest of her
life with her lover (equally blessed) and his family. (However, it took Jean
Auel about 8 years to write this book.)
After this exciting day, I went up to the golf club and fetched DT, said
goodbye to Matt, hitched-up and were on our way up the coast. It is always a
beautiful drive, no matter the weather - but today, the drive was just
spectacular. The sea was a bit wild, and it was windy - but the color of the
ocean was so brilliant - and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We had a
lovely afternoon. This evening finds us in Newport, where we stopped at the
RV park at the Marina - operated by the city. Lured by the sweet smell of
roasting barley, we went across the road to our friend's brew pub, Rogue
Ales. We had a quick drink in the pub above the brewery before heading back
to the motorhome to enjoy a home cooked dinner and watch the ESPY awards. I
served dinner on "re-usable" paper plates. Can someone explain this concept
to me? Why would you re-use paper plates? Why wouldn't you just use regular
plates if you wanted to wash dishes? I threw them in the garbage. Let me
know if you would like me to "rinse and reuse" them for you.
