Sedona Golf Resort
Sedona, Arizona - Okay, it is well known
that I am not the sharpest crayon in the box, but would you believe that
Snoopy Rock can be seen from the campground? It is scary that they let me
drive, vote and reproduce, isn't it?
We had a quiet morning. DT drove up to the local high school to make use of
their track. His leg is feeling so much better, he felt maybe a little track
work-out was in order. That's my boy! While he was gone, I did a little
housework and laundry. After DT returned from his jog, I finally made the
pancakes and we headed south on 179 to
Sedona Golf
Resort for an afternoon of pain and pleasure.

We played with two men, Charlie and Jim, from Florida. They
were nice guys and didn't mind my whiffs, nor the fact I played the first 6
holes and then only a few par 3's after that. (Hey, I am slowly working my
way back into the world after surgery.) The golf course is simply
outstanding and has a famous hole - #10 - that is reputed to be the most
photographed hole in all of Arizona. Gee, I wonder why...

The view from the tenth tee box
The above photo is actually just a still from my video
camera. I am still working on this technique, but I think you can see the
spectacular scenery from the image. There are two homes at the top of this
hole - imagine having your coffee each morning with that view! The wind was
strong all day, but it never seemed to come from the same direction! At
times it would take your ball, and at others, completely ignore it. There
were interesting "hazards" on every hole - rabbits. Rabbits, rabbits
EVERYWHERE! Baby rabbits. Old, fat rabbits. Sleeping rabbits. Eating
rabbits. Rabbits. Also, we saw dozens of quail on the course, robins and
sparrows.

The guys were teeing up on the 15th hole, when a ball came
flying from the 14th - a par three. It bounced off a roof of a nearby house
and crashed into a barbeque. A few moments later, another ball came flying
down the cart path and landed in a most peculiar spot - between Jim and
Charlie's bags on their cart!

Unplayable lie
Look closely! You can see the ball about 3/4 of the way down
the center of the photo. I am forwarding this photo to the unlucky hitter -
he gave me his email address because no one would believe it otherwise.

Sedona Golf Resort
As we finished the round, the sky became dark. I am only an
Oregonian, but it sure looked like rain to me. They have not had rain in
Sedona for months and months.
Sedona Golf Resort is a very pretty course. Too bad it was so windy today -
but we did get a twilight price, which made all that beauty and all those
poor shots, easier to absorb.
My aches were consoled tonight back at the
Oak
Creek Brewery. I just couldn't leave Sedona without double-checking that
deep fried pickles were the best thing to hit my palate since those chicken
tacos in Vegas. Dang - I was right. They are divine! We pretended to be
healthy and had salads too, but then DT decided he needed Buffalo wings. His
lips were on fire - and this is no sex-story line. I am talking actual
flames. He asked the waitress for a fire extinguisher. She brought him a
beer and a lime. The lime helped. I offered a Pepsid-AC. We had gone to the
restaurant for pizza... we never did have pizza.
Sadly, tomorrow we must leave Sedona. Because of the trail closures, we
never did get in a hike to Bell Rock, so we will have to return some day.
(Hopefully, not in a drought year. After golfing today, I am not so sure an
8-mile hike would have been a good idea anyway. Yet.) Sadder still, we have
to drive, straight uphill, to Flagstaff and probably wait for a day OR TWO
at the Cummins repair shop. I may not be able to update tomorrow. So, don't
worry, I will return as soon as we get Goldie's hormones adjusted. And, who
knows where the road will take us next?
