Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada - We had a quiet day,
slept-in and spent our day at the pool, doing laundry and preparing Goldie
for her journey in the morning. It is amazing how messy and unorganized a
motor home can get in 5 days - especially since we have rarely been "home".
Late in the afternoon, we dolled-up and headed in to town. I was on a
mission: something for our friend Pam's birthday! We parked at Caesar's
Palace and walked across the street (15 miles) to Paris... Rome to Paris...
or as Matt would say "Fake Rome to Fake Paris"... and found a lovely little
trinket in the hotel gift shop - a little Las Vegas and a little Paris -
perfect!

Fake Paris

The shopping arcade in Fake Paris is very nice - nearly as
good as the real thing, with comparable prices. Sidewalk cafes, cheese
shops, wine shops, chocolate shops. The hotel has beautiful Tiffany-style
glass dome ceilings. After finding the perfect gag gift, we hiked back to
Caesar's Palace and spent a while walking through the Forum Shops - the best
shopping in Las Vegas. We spent thirty minutes in FAO Schwartz at the Sanrio
section - a girl can never have enough Hello Kitty band-aids. At 7:30, we
went to Terrazza in Caesar's Palace (NOTE: this restaurant
has now closed - replaced with something else) to meet Brother Steve and
Gina for dinner! Surprise guests! Steve and Gina arrived tonight in Las
Vegas for the annual gem show. We stayed in town today to have dinner with
them. We had a great meal too, trying many different things and enjoying
everything. Gina's meal was the winner - she had Dover sole with roasted
cherry tomatoes and haricot vert. I had asparagus risotto - it was very rich
and creamy. DT had pasta with seafood and Steve had hand-made cheese
ravioli. We had nice wine and shared two desserts. We did not care for their
cannoli - they were very small - cigar-sized - and really a bit bland.
After dinner, I spent 30 minutes with Gina at the blackjack table, teaching
her the basics. Of course, I may have not been the best teacher in the
world, and she was too nervous betting to really enjoy herself. We all went
home early. Steve and Gina have a big show beginning tomorrow and we are
leaving first thing in the morning.
We have had a great time in Vegas, but 6 nights is TOO MUCH! Of course, if
Jimmy Buffett were playing every night, 6 nights would not be ENOUGH... but
it is not a perfect world.
