Jimmy Buffett in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada - We had a very quiet day. I was so tired from last night after all my rockin' and rollin'. We went to the pool, I did some needlework, and DT went to the driving range. I napped. At 5 pm, we went over to meet Matt at the Venetian Hotel. (Our friend, Matt, flew in to join us at the concert and golf.) We had something to eat - not wanting to repeat our "no dinner" mistake of last night. We played the tables for a bit - DT was lucky - and then took a cab to the MGM Grand for the concert.

The crowd tonight was very different - more subdued and a bit quieter. We think it may have been a combination of hang-overs from last night and a Sunday night crowd v. a Saturday night crowd. Parrotheads were in full plumage though - everyone looked divine. I brought a lei for Matt, as this was his first phlocking. Jimmy Buffett was wearing the same style and color of baseball shirt, but tonight it said "Zanzibar" on the front (last night it read "Road Trip"). Of course, he was barefoot.

The set list was nearly identical to last night's: Stars on The Water, Blue Guitar, Weather is Here, Come Monday, Boat Drinks (bluegrass style), Why Don't We Get Drunk, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Last Man Standing, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Fruitcakes, Margaritaville, One Particular Harbour, Autor de Rocher, Volcano, Far Side of the World, Savannah Fare you Well, Everybody's Got a Cousin in Miami, What if the Hokey Pokey Is all It Really Is About, A Pirate Looks At Forty, I Love the Now, Fins, Southern Cross, Brown Eyed Girl, Tiki Bar is Open, Changes in Latitude, Margaritaville Reprise (the lost verse) and Tonight I Just Need my Guitar.

Again, 27 songs. The girl from Phoenix - by way of Beaverton - who bought my spare ticket, saw us in the concourse before the concert and asked if I was Terry. Yes! I had told her I was a middle-aged woman and would be with two men and she pegged me! Rachel was a very nice lady and we enjoyed her company very much. We were buying each other drinks, dancing and talking between songs - Rachel has a deep Buffett knowledge base. Matt did very well. With only a little prompting he successfully participated in his first "fins to the left, fins to the right" and picked-up most of the moves for the other songs. He feels he can now be an honorary Parrothead, but since a girl came up to him and gave him another lei, I think he may be official-official.

It was another energy-charged concert. Jimmy Buffett is always so happy. And, seriously folks, why wouldn't he be? Having 17,000 people paying to hear you sing must be a wonderful feeling. Savannah Jane was again just off stage to hear Daddy sing. During the encore, when he sang Tiki Bar, she came up on stage with the Coral Reeferettes. Savannah was singing, but they did not put the microphone in front of her. Savannah is very pretty - she looks like her Mother, but has those Buffett dimples. Jimmy said he was taking his daughter "out" after the show. During the concert in Houston several weeks ago, there was a live-feed from the International Space Station - one of the US astronauts is a huge Parrothead. He was shown, live, floating around with a cheeseburger in his hand and talked to the audience at the Houston show. Jimmy announced that NASA was now broadcasting all of his concerts, LIVE, to the Space Station, via Radio Margaritaville. Your tax dollars at work, pholks. Jimmy also made a Memorial Day tribute to our Armed Forces men and women, who were also listening LIVE via Radio Margaritaville, all around the world. We cheered them wildly! Again, just a magical evening and, again, I was exhausted.

The line for taxis was miles-long, so we decided to walk across the street to New York, New York, to catch a cab. It takes so long to walk anywhere in Vegas! The "next" hotel looks like it is just next door or just across the street, but it can be a mile away, or it takes so long to get there, walking through the maze and crowds! The line at New York, New York was also long, but we waited for a taxi back to The Venetian and our car. DT and I found the BC2 - another 30 minute walk - and were back to Goldie by 1:00 am.
