Dinner with the sisters
Washington, DC -
Due to the time change, or possibly the late evening yesterday, we slept-in
a bit this morning. DT went on a nice, long run along the Potomac and then
we took Lisa to Costco. She was looking to buy a DVD player, so we thought
Costco would be a good bet, plus we loaded her up on staples and those heavy
things she hates to buy at Safeway. (Actually, now Lisa is usually having
her groceries delivered to avoid the big-carry-back to her apartment.)
Then we headed over to the ESPN Zone restaurant to watch the last half of
the GW v Fordham game (GW WINS!) and the first half of the DUCK v UCLA game
(DUCKS WIN!). It was a good day for Taylor-family sport teams. The food at
the ESPN Zone was pretty good, too.
Then it was back to Taylor Manor East to see if Mom could get the DVD player
to work. I hooked it up WITHOUT READING THE DIRECTIONS and it worked first
time! It seems to only play in letterbox mode, and we are not sure if this
is because the video she rented is that way, or if the DVD player only plays
in this mode. More research may be necessary. (Goodness, I hope she doesn't
now require a big screen television!)
After a nice rest, we met back at Lisa's apartment to go to dinner with
Paula (Lisa's twin sister from our cruise), Lauren (Lisa's Big Sister) and
Cheryl (a new sorority sister). Four classes of GW students were represented
tonight (2002-2005). Of course, we did have in our presence the NEW President of GW Panhellenic - Miss Lisa Taylor! Crowds parted when we walked. Though I am a
Highly Prejudiced Mother, it is difficult to determine which of these girls
is the prettiest, smartest, nicest, sweetest...

Sophomore, Senior, Junior and Freshman at Two Quail
Two Quail (NOTE: now closed) isa very nice restaurant in an old town house
near the Capitol Building. It has funky, nearly-hippy, decor and a very
diverse menu. We tried an interesting appetizer, Bake Brie in pastry with
raspberries, and devoured it so quickly, we ordered another. What stopped us
from ordering a third were the stuffed mushrooms! Wonderful. The girls had
salads with apples and blue cheese and butternut squash dumplings. BIG
ANNOUNCEMENT: I am starting to eat a little meat. Dave and I had
fish - I had an ahi tuna steak salad with mango salsa and DT tried the
poached salmon. Both were lovely! We also had an assortment of luscious
desserts. The girls kept us amused with their gossipy tales of life at GW
and we enjoyed getting to know Cheryl.
It was just pouring rain in Washington tonight, and taxi's were rare, so ALL
SIX of us piled into one taxi and went back to Lisa's to watch Saturday
Night Live (actually LIVE for once). Too late for us old folks and then
Lauren woke her poor boyfriend and made him drive us TWO BLOCKS to The
Watergate so we wouldn't have to walk in the rain. We owe Jared big time.
TOMORROW: MORE FOOD! Lauren's folks are driving down from New Jersey to have
brunch with us! A play at the Kennedy Center and then dinner with the old
friends!
Oink. Oink.
Looks like my worst nightmare is coming true: GW plays UMass Wednesday
afternoon. GO COLONIALS!!!
