Morro Bay
Morro Bay, California: Well, I can't golf,
but I sure had a great time today at
Morro Bay
Golf Course. We know it is rainy and cold in Portland, but we played
golf today in the sun - wearing t-shirts and shorts. They paired us with
Doris and John - we are not sure how old they are, but they have been
married 63 years. It was like seeing DT and myself in the future. John
played from the ladies tees, but could really whack the ball, so I am not
sure why he played the front tees. A hawk with a little mouse (lunch) in her
talons flew 10 feet over my head! Very exciting!
After golf we drove back down to the bay to see if we could find the otter
again and found 3 moms with babies! One family was quite close and I was
able to get this photo - Mom is grooming the baby while they float sleepily
in the seaweed.

Sea Otters
Added later: Friends had recommended
Hoppe's Restaurant, so we drove north a few miles on Highway 1 to Cayucos.
But, it was Monday and Hoppe's was closed. We did have nice views of the
coastline and were able to watch the sunset from "the islands" - a
subdivision in north Morro Bay with every street named after an island:
Mindoro, Easter, Java, Capri and Whidbey to name a few.

Other restaurants in Cayucos did not seem very interesting
(or open) so we drove back to Morro Bay to
Harada Japanese Restaurant. We sat at the 2nd floor sushi bar and had
nice view of the power plant and Morro Rock as they faded into darkness...
well, the rock faded to darkness, the towers on the power plant are covered
with blinking red lights. For the first time ever, we had a non-Japanese
sushi chef. (Sushi tasted the same! Who knew!) DT ate an assortment of raw
fish. I had cucumber sushi, a bowl of rice and a plate of stir-fried
vegetables with tofu. Delicious and perfectly seasoned. Harada not only
serves up great views and food - the restaurant is very pretty, with
handcrafted pine beams and window screens. Very simple and elegant.
