Fort Lauderdale

A room with a view - sunrise
We have arrived in Florida. Don't let the sun
fool you. It is chilly in South Florida! By that I mean, it was below 40
degrees last night. Today it is ONLY going to be 65. (Not to worry, a
warming trend is on the way.) We are at the
Marriott Harbor Beach Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
DT and I had an early night last night, but Lisa went out with friends
from GW and didn't come in 'til the wee hours.
We had a late breakfast this
morning outside in the sun - it isn't THAT cold - then hopped into our
super-special, extended-length, champagne-colored mini-van (!) and drove
down the Avenue Known As A1A. We drove through South Beach -
certainly one of the most colorful neighborhoods in America. Major people
watching! Every building is Art Deco style and the neighbors seem to be a
mixture of gay men, glamorous women and Orthodox Jews. Shabbat Shalom!
Gourmet restaurants and fabulous shops. Lush palms, Lamborghini's, sunshine
and salsa sounds in the air.
The afternoon was spent back at the pool - but
not in our bathing suits. The lead news story is the cold weather here in
South Florida, but these Oregonians think it is just fine. 68 degrees,
hardly a cloud in the sky and no wind? Heavenly!
