Caravan Oasis RV Park | San Diego RV Park
Yuma, Arizona: We drove from Earp,
California to Yuma, Arizona (south, along Highway 95), caravanning with my
parents. We met up with my Aunt and Uncle again in Yuma and the six of us
drove to the edge of Yuma, actually into California, parked the car and
walked across the border into Algadonas, Mexico. The little town is full of
shops for tourists: Liquor store, then pharmacy, then dentist, then cantina,
then optometrist, then craft store, then liquor store, pharmacy... etc. We
walked through a few shops and then stopped into a cantina for a snack. The
town didn't offer anything different than we had seen in Mazatlan, and the
prices were a little higher, but it is still fun going through the shops and
talking with the shop keepers. One shopkeeper wanted to marry me, so my Mom
asked if he would give her a discount (as his Mother-in-Law)! Later, my
Mother, now known by US Customs as Algadonas Gloria, bought two BBQ chicken
halves and smuggled them back over the border!
Back at our campsite, parked on gravel, we enjoyed the setting sun and my
uncle snapped this photo:

Snicks, and the people he owns
We had a potluck and another domino tournament and called it
a night, because we are all driving to San Diego tomorrow. The weather is
just terrible all over the south, so if we are going to be cold, we decided
to be cold in San Diego where we can enjoy the Zoo, etc.

12 February 2001 | San Diego, California: We are in San
Diego at an over-priced RV park next to the freeway! It is the only
park that could take all three of our big rigs - all the other nearby
campgrounds were full.
Added later: We had a quiet afternoon around the
campground... then we all went down town San Diego to the Gaslight District
and walked around until we found a place to eat. We had dinner at The Dakota
- very interesting menu with a variety of southwestern-themed items on the
menu. We tried BBQ chicken, Caesar salad, chipolte ravioli, and southwestern
eggrolls - as an example. Mom tried their chocolate fudge torte with a pecan
caramel sauce. We had a nice time and enjoyed the warm restaurant.
