Errand Day + Tech Day

We had planned Sunday as "Errand Day". I had arranged to rent a van, which we picked up at 11 a.m. and then we drove south about 20 miles to an IKEA store in Virginia. Lisa needed a chair for her apartment. We left with two identical chairs and a small filing cabinet. It was a chore fitting everything in the van - but we did it and drove back in a blinding rainstorm. The weather people are still predicting a big snowstorm, and it is getting colder... but not cold enough to snow YET. The rain continues in Washington, D.C.

We made it back to the apartment and Dave and Lisa took the chairs out of the boxes while I made lunch... and then we were off again - to the supermarket. We took Lisa's friend, Jessica, and both girls did a major shop - something usually difficult for them without a car.

Tonight Lisa is having a meeting in her apartment, so we will make ourselves scarce returning the rental car. Then we will order-in pizza and plant ourselves in front of the TV for The Sopranos season premiere.

GOOD NEWS!!! My Colonials have been seeded in the A-10 Tourney against Duquesne, 8:30 p.m. (Eastern) Wednesday night. My Colonials beat Duquesne (pronounced Doo-cane) twice in regular season. The game is on ESPN. Mark your calendars.

5 March 2001:
Hello from snowy Washington!  We woke to snow, but it didn't stick. Lisa went to her internship and I walked to Colonial Computers to get an Ethernet card and returned to wire Lisa's computer to a DSL line. And you know - it actually works! It is helpful to have a geeky Mom - occasionally. Dave spent the morning assembling the file cabinet purchased yesterday at IKEA.

We met Lisa for lunch and then were given a tour of her office. She works about 15 hours per week at the Economic Analysis Group. Lisa told us she has a little "cubicle" and though it was tiny and windowless - it was a real office with her name on the door. Lisa sits at her desk and inputs financial data.  Not the most exciting internship, but she gets a little salary and enjoys her co-workers.

We walked home via the GW Bookstore. I had to load-up on Colonial paraphernalia for the games this week. It is now sunny - though windy.  Tonight we are going to DC Coast for dinner with a group of Lisa's friends.

The only other news is that VP Dick Cheney was admitted to The George Washington University Hospital this morning suffering from chest pains.

Added later:
We had a great dinner with Lisa and her friends at DC Coast. We have tried to make reservations several times on previous visits and never had luck. Lisa had planned ahead, so we were eight for dinner. Our group included Dave and I, Lisa, Todd (pre-med sophomore from Ohio), Matt (sophomore from Long Island, wants to be a rabbi and have his own talk show), Jessica (the birthday girl, sophomore, from Long Island), Lauren (junior, New Jersey, Lisa's sorority Big Sister), and Margot (freshman from Long Island, Lisa's Little Sister). We had a grand time and enjoyed fabulous meals.
