Last home game
I didn't get much sleep - so happy the three of us were together
and so nervous for the game tomorrow! So, I was up bright and early for the noon
tip-off. Though the weatherman is predicting a huge snowstorm, it was about 60
degrees and sunny in Washington today. I went over to the Smith Center early to
meet with the lady in charge of the A-10 Tournament tickets. She gave me our
ticket packet and invited us to a reception Thursday night in Philadelphia! Last
week the Athletic Department invited to us a party on Tuesday, so we are either
very popular or the only GW fans going to the tournament.
I walked up to my seat and ran into Temple coach, John Cheney. As much as I
admire him as a person and coach, I really wanted him to lose today. He was
just sitting alone in the bleachers, drinking coffee from a styrofoam cup. I
said hello and he smiled and said hello back. He seemed to be relaxing
before the game and I had discovered his secret reflection spot in the
bleachers. Chaney gets so worked-up during the games; I always think he is
going to collapse on the court.
I hope it was decaf.
Dave showed up before tip-off and the game began. It was a very exciting
game. My Colonials played well together as a team, and since it was Senior
Day, the five seniors on the team played. During half time, GW introduced
their "All Century Team". Some of the players, now deceased, were
represented by family members. The most well known player is legendary
Celtic's coach Red Aurbach. He graduated GW in the early 40's and
still attends every home game.

My Colonials in a huddle
Lisa arrived at half time. She lives across the street from
the Smith Center and this was only her third game this year! I spend a
fortune just for satellite coverage and she can't walk across the street???
My Colonials were always behind by just a few points. At the end of the
second half, they had caught up. My Man Chris Monroe kept putting up 3
pointers and they kept going IN. Monroe is NOT a 3-point shooter, but no one
told him and he was on fire! The game went into overtime and Temple won by 4
points. I was most disappointed. I was also exhausted and had lost my voice
screaming and cheering for My Colonials.
Even my ears hurt.
After the game we met Lisa's friend, Jarred, and the four of us walked to
Georgetown - 10 minutes - for lunch at Clyde's. Even though it was
three o'clock in the afternoon, I had not had breakfast - too nervous to eat
before the game. We had wonderful, fluffy omelets then walked down to Dean &
Deluca to see Kelsey. Kelsey works at Dean & Deluca and we caught
her at her lunch break. We watched her eat lunch and made plans to meet
again later tonight.
Added later: We just came back from dinner at Japone
(pronounced Jap-on-aye) near Dupont, with Kelsey. It was a very good time -
great sushi, ice-cold Sapporo and fun people singing Karaoke. (Other fun
people, not us fun people.) We laughed so much and had a really good time.
Here is a photo of the girls - we are back at Lisa's apartment having apple
pie and hopefully Kelsey will sing for us.
