Ready... set...
Lisa reported to the ballroom of the Sacramento Hilton for
her first day on the job. NIKE put her to work immediately on a high-level
stapling project! (I have no doubt Lisa is the best stapling intern ever.)
The stapling project occurred during a huge press conference, held by the
Trials organization, featuring the ‘big name’ athletes.
Lisa reports:
Maurice Green has a new red sports car and Michael Johnson is much more
relaxed and personable here than he was in Athens at the World Track & Field
Championships. Jackie Joyner-Kersey has her own “personal” press conference
later in the afternoon. It was then Lisa’s job to hand the newly-stapled
NIKE press conference schedules to members of the press as they left the
ballroom. (Obviously, a good education has enabled Lisa to develop the skill
needed for today’s work environment.)
Meanwhile, at the other end of the work force: her Father was golfing with
his brother and her Mother was baking bread. Dave shot a decent round at
Ansel Hoffman and I made a loaf of Mexican Spicy focaccia. Gina said she was
making Mexican food for dinner and I was to bring the bread so… I started
throwing things in the bread machine… I used Mexican beer, a can of Green
Giant Mexicorn and two jalapeño chilies. It was dense, aromatic and hot,
hot, hot.
Dinner at Steve and Gina’s was a blast – Gina made a salad with fresh
vegetables from her garden, black bean and rice enchiladas with smoked
cheese. Their good friends, Lisa and Curtis, stopped by and joined us for
dinner at the last minute – they had just returned from Bali and had great
photos of their adventures.
