London Bridge in Lake Havasu

Lake Havasu, Arizona:  I have been banished from my marital bed! Because of my terrible cold, I am snoring like a hibernating Grizzly and was sent packing last night! It's the sofa for me. I was sleeping with the windows open and this morning our neighbors packed-up and left... hmmm... planned departure or are they afraid of bears???

Today (temperature 95) our big adventure (besides hitting the supermarket) was to checkout the London Bridge. BIG NEWS! Snickers only barked for about 5 minutes when we left him, so we were able to see the bridge without a leash!  We learned the bridge was built over of the Thames in 1824. Lake Havasu City resident, Mr. McCulloch (of chainsaw fame) needed a bridge to get to an island (where we are camped) in Lake Havasu, so he bought the London Bridge. He had it dismantled, shipped across the Atlantic and re-constructed here. It opened in October 1971. I learned today that McCulloch thought he was buying the Tower Bridge and was a bit disappointed when this bridge showed-up. OOPS!  He spent seven millions dollars to do this? It is one of the silliest things I have ever witnessed.

We looked through the gift shops at the end of the bridge, but walked away tee-shirt-free. (We did get you a post card though, Howard - and it is already in the mail.) Since I am, as yet, unable to golf... well, let me clarify that... I am truly a terrible golfer... what I meant to say was: because of the injury to my hand, I can't golf for another week or so... and there are so many courses around here. Poor Hubby is quite frustrated, me thinks, without his golf and must appease himself with the endless parade of girls in thong bikinis on the docks and beaches.

Notes from Lisa:
GW is back to normal (except that everyone is away for Passover) and there was not too much damage to campus during the "demonstrations" against the IMF and World Bank. Demonstrators shattered a back window in a campus police car and other personal cars were also vandalized on campus. A statue of George his-own-self was vandalized! (Oh, that makes me mad!) Graffiti decorates campus. There is some criticism over the decision to close campus, but the University President, Stephen Joel Trachtenberg, says the Secret Service, FBI, etc., closed an entire quadrant of the city - and George Washington University was in the middle. I am happy Lisa is safe and back to classes. She has signed a lease on a nice apartment just down the street from her present dorm for next year. Now, we get to furnish an apartment in Washington, DC while on the road...that will be a challenge!

This afternoon was beautiful. We enjoyed the sun, and palm-lined beach - chatted with neighbors and went for a walk. But tonight we had dinner INDOORS - it  was too windy to eat outdoors! Just when we thought bad weather was following us, after dinner (Saganaki and Greek Salads) the wind died down as quickly as it came up and we sat outside, enjoying the stars and boats quietly cruising on the now-still lake. Tomorrow we leave for Yosemite and plan to take 2 days, as it is a 500-mile trip.
