Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon: May everyone have a joyous Passover week! This morning we woke up to sunny skies and it was warm enough to sit outside (wearing sweaters) to have our coffee!  What a change in just a few hours. I had such a chill from last night on the rim, and have now come down with a doozy of a cold! Drats! We left our campsite before 10:00 a.m. and drove as far around the canyon rim as is allowed by private car. Here are a few shots of my impressions of the Grand Canyon:

It was a beautiful, warm day - well, we did need sweaters, but it was very nice.  We didn't see much wildlife - a few deer, chipmunks, robins and a few ravens.  One place we stopped on our travels today was the Tusayan Ruins. The ruins are from 800 years ago - ancestors of the Pueblo people. The approximate 30 people living on the rim of the canyon were very expert at not only building from stone; they also excelled in hunting, and agriculture. They built complex stone cities.  Despite their skill as builders, they did not invent chimneys. Smoke-filled rooms contributed to respiratory difficulties. Here is a photo of the ruins of the Kiva (ceremonial house) at the Tusayan Ruins on the rim of the Grand Canyon:

After driving the canyon rim, we headed back to Goldie for a very late lunch. We tried to leave Doodle Dawg in the RV (he suffers with separation anxiety... oh, wait - we suffer with his separation anxiety) while we walked over to the Grand Canyon Village for post card shopping - but he barked and howled so much, we had to retrieve him and haul him along on his leash. (He is in big trouble for being such a bad boy.) As it turned out, Snickers was nearly as popular as the view - seems everyone left their dog in a kennel and were very happy to pet our Friendly Fellow. Snickers loved all the attention, while DT and I took turns going into the gift shops and Visitor Center, while the other waited outside with the dog. Back to Goldie for the boiling of the matzo balls and another attempt at catching the sunset on the rim (without the wind). We were successful on both quests. Quiet evening at home... we are leaving tomorrow... changing course again... changing our altitude, changing our attitude...
