Oasis RV Park | Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada: Today we had a beautiful
drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas... even though it seemed to take a very long
time to actually drive through all the suburbs of Phoenix. Arizona is
voting on growth boundary laws this election... I think it may be too late.
We were very happy leaving town though, with many fun memories... not to
mention the football game.
We drove route 93 to Las Vegas - through beautiful deserts of saguaro
cactus, up into the mountains through miles of Joshua Trees, drove (about 5
miles per hour in a traffic jam) over Hoover Dam and dropped into the City
of Las Vegas around 3:00 in the afternoon. We checked into a fancy RV park
(putting course, three swimming pools, restaurant, bar and, of course, a few
slots machines), DT went for a run and at 6:00 p.m. we caught their shuttle
to "The Strip". Our first stop was the M&M store - my favorite store in
Vegas. The store has been completely remodeled since our April visit - well,
Las Vegas seems to be completely remodeled since we were here in April. New
shops have opened, casinos have completely remodeled - but it is the same,
gaudy, wonderful, tacky place as always. It was a beautiful evening, though
rain was predicted, so we walked around for a few hours - enjoying the
shops, enjoying the people watching, hearing many foreign languages and just
absorbing the crazy zoo that is Las Vegas.
We also wanted to eat again at Olives restaurant in the Bellagio Hotel.
The restaurant was full, but we found a seat in the bar and had lovely wine
and their delicious "flat bread" (we call it pizza) to fortify us for a
night at the tables. I had, again, promised my winnings to Lisa, who was
hoping for a Brinks shipment. Things were going well - DT and I were playing
at the same table and having a lot of fun with the dealers and other players
until I needed to use the ladies room.
When I exited the ladies room, I became completely disoriented and could not
find my blackjack table, my husband... not to mention my stack of chips
sitting beside him! Completely turned-around, I THOUGHT I had retraced my
tracks, but all the rows of tables and rows of slot machines looked the
same. I must have circled the casino twice, before giving up and asking for
help. I had to go to a pit boss, tell him I was playing 21, the name of the
dealers at our table and he pointed me in the right direction! He told me
“Don’t worry about it; people are always getting lost in here!” (Didn’t make
me feel any better.) I was away from my table about 20 minutes and was
really teased when I arrived back! I deserved it all too! Anyway... more fun
at the table... the stack of chips growing... but it was getting late and we
caught a taxi back to Goldie - in the rain.
Lisa will get a fat little envelope in the mail! Viva Las Vegas!
