Sitges Sangria

Sangria

We watched the bartender at a wonderful restaurant in Sitges (Spain) make pitchers of Sangria in the evenings – and I think this tastes just like his concoction. It is important to use the Torres brand wine our bartender used – easy to find with the little plastic bull tied to the top of the bottle – plus it is inexpensive!

2 oranges - sliced, with rind
2 lemons - sliced, with rind
½ cup sugar, dissolved in 1/2 cup hot water
1 cup orange liquor
1 cup white rum
One bottle Torres "Sangre de Toro" (Blood of the Bull) wine
Two 10 oz. bottles soda water (or to taste)

Mix all ingredients, except soda water in gallon pitcher or punch bowl. Let flavors blend for about 2 hours. Add soda water at serving time. Serve over plenty of ice.

Serves many.
