More Visitors

Merced, California:  Dave's high school friend, and high school track teammate, Mark, was in Merced visiting his Mom, so Mark (and his wife, Debbie) stopped to spend a bit of time with Dave's Mom as well. Mark grew up just a few blocks from Dave and was a constant visitor to the household.

There is a very famous story of Dave's mom (and dad) needing to go out to an evening function and fretting that her high school aged sons wouldn't have something to eat... so Dave's mom put TWO DOZEN beef tacos in the oven, on warm, for her sons. (This occurred circa early 1970s.) Dave and Mark arrived first to the house and proceeded to consume ALL of the tacos... and then they went for a training run.

Dave and Mark went on to compete at the collegiate level in distance races.

I think I have heartburn just after typing the above paragraphs. Oh. To. Be. Young. Again.

To all fans of Mark: yes, he has a beard now. Yes, it is super soft, and, yes, he is even more gorgeous with the beard. If that is possible. (That said - just like me versus DT's beard - Debbie wants it gone.) Debbie and Mark have taken up golf. Won't this be fun!

After her visitors this afternoon, and so much activity yesterday, Mom just wanted to rest this afternoon.

Lake Yosemite
Lake Yosemite reservoir - with the University of California Merced campus on the left.

Dave and I took a drive out to a completely full Lake Yosemite reservoir and then joined Brother Billy and Ginger for a fun evening at their home for grilled steak, roasted asparagus and a fantastic salad (arugula, farro, goat cheese, walnuts, tomatoes and other wonderful things). Dang, if Billy isn't the best cook in the family. Hands down. Delish.

Until my next update, I remain, your Merced correspondent.
