Golf at Rolling Hills

Corning, California:  We have said goodbye to family and are on the closing stretch to our house in Portland. Of course, there is a track meet in Eugene, and a few RV repairs along the way... but we have several days until our next commitment, so can take it easy and relax along our journey north.

As usual, we stopped in Corning at the Rolling Hills RV Park, arriving early enough to get-in 18 holes at their golf course - the Links at Rolling Hills.

Rolling Hills Golf Course
Mt. Lassen (Hey, I've climbed to the top of this peak!)

From the golf course, we had views to snow-covered Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta. We also saw snow on the coast range mountains! After years of drought, we can't believe all the snow on the mountains in northern California. Every river is bursting the banks.

Since we teed-off late with the weekend twilight rate ($45, including cart, range balls, water, and $20 in casino play), we met few golfers on the course today - but we saw plenty of wildlife. Rabbits, red-winged blackbirds, gopher snakes, cranes, quail, turkey vultures, geese and even a few muskrat.

muskrat

I can't recall seeing a muskrat until today.

Geese were all over the 16th hole. One family had TEN babies. So fluffy and so adorable and so not afraid of golfers.

A great day of golf... even though I shot 130, I had about five amazingly good shots (for me), and made a 4 on a par 3, so am thankful for any small improvement. This true links-style course is long and challenging... plus, the temperatures were in the low 90s.

Persevere!

We came back to our air conditioned motorhome after golf, had a bowl of veggie soup and caught the last extra-innings of the Giants game.

Until my next update, I remain, your muskrat-loving correspondent.

RV Park: Rolling Hills RV Park. Very simple campground. All sites are long 30/50-amp full-service pull-throughs. Bathhouse at the next-door truck stop. Vans/golf carts cruise through the campground to take campers to/from the casino. Laundry room. No wifi in campground, but available at truckstop. No cable. No nothing. We stay here all the time. $28.
