No Photos Tonight
Merced, California: Nothing much to
report that would interest anyone except our relatives. We have been spending
time with family, catching-up.
Our niece, Meghan, and her wife, Jamie, have moved into a new house outside of
Sacramento. We had a tour of the new digs yesterday, and in the evening the
Sacramento-area relatives gathered at a local Italian joint for a great meal.
Seven of us around a table. Everyone talking at once. You know, just like your
So. Much. Fun. Everyone is doing so well and everyone looks so well.
Except me. I am a mess. The automatic hatch on the back of the Jeep closed on my
head. Bang. Then I slammed my thumb between the RV door and screen door. Ouch.
Just for fun, I had a massive cramp in my hamstring. Painful! People, you just
have no idea the size of my hammy. I make WGA
Eaton look like a distance runner.
Dave and I hitched-up and headed south on Highway 99 this morning to Merced -
DT's home town - where he was raised through high school.
The sky was clear and bright, but there were terrible winds. Happily, the wind
was at our back all the way south on Highway 99, but as soon as we took a left
off the highway, it was tough to keep the Magna Peregrinus on a
straight line! I was nearly blown-over while "guiding" DT into our campsite. Be
careful out there.
We are staying at the very super-dooper small (8 site)
Castle Air Museum Family
Camp on the now-closed Castle Air Base. After checking-in and setting up camp,
we drove into Merced and spent the rest of the day with Dave's Mom. Chatting.
Catching-up. Telling tales.
Tomorrow there will be more visiting. More chatting. More
catching-up. More tales. I will try to take a few photos.
There was some excitement on the old air base today - Google
cars are doing test-runs around the shuttered air base. I wonder if the cars
can be towed behind a motorhome?
Until my next update, I remain, your Merced correspondent.
RV PARK: Castle Air Museum Family
Camp. A very small campground (like a parking lot with hook-ups) between
Merced and Atwater. 50-amp sites, with water and sewer. No bathhouse. No cable.
It's the only show in town. $25 per night.
