Back to Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California: Our Adorable Granddaughter turns one tomorrow and Lisa and Lenny's house will be filled with family and friends - everyone flying-in to celebrate Lucy's Big Day. We caught the Alaska Airlines shuttle ourselves to join the festivities.

If we thought Leo's first year went quickly, we had no idea the speed of time increases with the second grandchild and the days zip by. One day Lucy is a cooing infant and the next moment she is standing, clapping and eating on her own. I know our own child (and most-likely yours as well) accomplished these same amazing feats, but after 30+ years, we really can't remember every milestone.

DT and Lucy

All I know, Lucy's face lit-up when she saw us at the airport and she melted into Bubba's arms all afternoon.

Oh. Those. Toes.

Leo

Lisa ran out on errands and Leo was allowed to watch 30 minutes of television. He choose a Disney show - very cute - Mickey and all his friends having some sort of adventure.

This evening Leo started asking me if I knew his friends. He started naming his friends. Of course we know nearly all his friends, kids in his neighborhood and his classmates (not to mention we saw them all again just two weeks ago for a refresher-course at his birthday party). Leo was amazed that I knew his friends. It is good to amaze your grandchild. It doesn't happen often.

Then I asked Leo if he knew a few of my friends. He did.

Lisa cooked an awesome meal tonight. Quesadillas filled with black beans, onion, butternut squash and cheese. Super delicious, vegetarian and loaded with healthy fiber. She served the quesadillas with a chopped salad and "Spanish" rice pilaf.

Lucy's dinner was the same, except deconstructed and without salt or spice. Butternut squash, avocado, tortilla and hand-smashed black beans. Lucy sometimes feels it is a waste of time to actually place the food in her mouth with her fingers, so goes straight to the tray with her mouth. Genius!

Big Day Tomorrow. Lots of cooking. Lots of baking. Lots of errands.

Can't wait to celebrate Lucy's 1st Birthday!

Until my next update, I remain, your Los Angeles correspondent.
