Baghdad by the Bay
San Francisco, California: Dave and I just
love San Francisco and visit The City often. We love the fog, the bridges, the
history, the shopping, the
multi-cultural ambiance - and the food.
Oh. My. Goodness. The. Food.
We had a little treat in the sky before leaving our campsites in Napa this
I also had a very sad moment. I ran out to the Napa Post Office to ship a
package (to Leo) and was so sad to see the building completely closed and
under scaffolding and fenced-off completely to the public.
Earthquake damage. Postal business is now housed in an around-the-corner
temporarily-rented building. I wonder how long it will be rented. Seriously,
the Napa Post Office is one of the most beautiful and grand in California. I
will be very sad if it must be torn down. Decision has yet to be made.
The route from Napa to San Francisco is not an easy course in a 45-foot
motorhome (towing a car). The lanes are narrow. The road is rough. We left
Napa, with Woody following. 90 minutes later - and a lot of sweat - we found
ourselves just south of The City in Pacifica at the
San Francisco RV Resort.
This is our fourth (at least) visit to this park, and every time we visit
there are fewer and fewer sites to rent as the coastline is eroding. The few
times we have stayed cliff-side, I was terrified we would fall into the sea.
After settling-in, our friends went out immediately to walk across the
Golden Gate Bridge - because they had to tick this task off their list. DT
and I, already
quite experienced on Golden Gate Bridge Traversing, decided to meet them
later on the wharf.

The weather was beautiful in San Francisco today. Though too foggy in town to
witness the solar eclipse, our friends were able to see it a bit from the
bridge. How momentous!
After their exercise, we gathered at
Alioto's for delicious seafood dinners.
Another great day with great friends on another great road trip.
Until my next update, I remain, your San Francisco correspondent.
