The Casino Trail
Corning, California: Interesting that
for the last two nights we have camped at casinos. No, we do not have a
gambling problem. We rarely go into the casinos, but they all make it so easy
for RVers to visit. Seven Feathers (Canyonville, Oregon) has one of the nicest
RV parks in the country and (if you ask) will give you a site for $19
Monday-Thursday. About 270 miles south on I-5, Rolling Hills (Corning,
California) has full-hookup pull-throughs and free wifi - and little else -
behind their casino for $28.
As you can plainly see.
They do have a bathhouse, but it is shared with the
truck stop and quite a walk in a bathrobe. Security cruises through the campsites often,
as does a shuttle to take you to the casino.
Our drive from one casino to the next was trouble-free. We seem to be
traveling between storms. No wind today and very little rain. Lake Shasta -
nearly EMPTY when we came through in October seems nearly at normally-low
levels again. There is a lot of new snow on Mt. Shasta as well. Let it snow!
There is a snowy mountain under all those clouds
We stayed in, watched the rain storm news from SoCal, and dined
Before we left Canyonville, I put the sauce ingredients for
Three Cup Chicken (except only used one star anise) in the bowl of the crockpot.
But I did not use chicken. I made
a combo recipe between
Three Cup Chicken and
Spicy Chinese Beef Pot, by using a one-pound strip steak, sliced thin.
It was torture having to smell the savory dish stewing-away all day (in the
kitchen sink!). An hour before serving, I added two stems of chopped basil
leaves and three sliced green onions to the pot. Delicious, and good to know
you can have Chinese food - without stir-frying - on the road.
Until my next update, I remain, your rambling correspondent.
RV PARK: Rolling
Hills RV Park - behind the Rolling Hills Casino in Corning, CA. Right off
I-5. Long gravel pull-through sites will full-service. This is great place to
camp if you are self-contained as the bathhouse is not close by and is shared by
truckers. Casino, restaurants, hotels, convenience, truck stop. Free wifi. Free
shuttle to casino. We paid $25.20 with our Good Sam discount.
